The Legion of Scriveners for Reform is a sister organization of the Pure Entertainment Preservation Society (PEPS), an unofficial non-profit organization which is dedicated to saving the arts in America through bringing the Motion Picture Production Code of 1930 back to Hollywood. The Legion of Scriveners was formed by the founding members of PEPS as a means to gain more public support and action for the cause of reforming Hollywood and purifying society by removing obscene films’ evil influence from our culture. However, PEPS is interested in reforming all the arts in America, including television, stage plays, opera, and ballet. Thus, in the future, some of the energy of the Legion’s scriveners will be dedicated to reforming these other forms of entertainment.
Although the arts are the main concern of PEPS, the Legion of Scriveners hopes to eventually have a broader scope by applying its focus and its members’ efforts to purifying not just the entertainment industry but our entire society. Obscene advertisements, indecent commercials, risqué clothing displays in stores, and other breaches of common decency are things which concern us. In addition, we are concerned with preserving history and culture in America through architecture, entertainment, and tributes to past glory. We also would like to bring awareness and recognition to worthwhile people from the past who are not properly honored, such as the original authors and enforcers of the Code. There are no definite limitations on the causes which can be advocated by the Legion of Scriveners. We are happy to support any cause or goal that we feel is a worthwhile one.
